CircoMod Researchers Engage at Prominent Industrial Ecology Conferences – Gordon Research Conference 2024

CircoMod is delighted to announce the participation of our team members in the Gordon Research Conference (GRC) and Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Industrial Ecology. These events took place from May 25 to 31, 2024, in Les Diablerets, Vaud, Switzerland, under the theme “Action-Oriented Industrial Ecology Science.” This theme underscores the commitment to translating research into practical solutions for sustainable transitions.

The GRC is celebrated for its deep scientific discussions and extensive dialogue sessions following each presentation, which enhance the level of discourse and foster collaboration among international experts. Concurrently, the GRS provides a dynamic platform for early-career researchers to showcase their work, promoting an engaging environment for presenting innovative research and discussing sustainable practices.

During the GRC, Professor Edgar Hertwich of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) delivered a 55-minute presentation and discussion on “European Climate Policy: Substantial, Belated Progress Toward Net-Zero and the Role of Scientific Insights and Advice in the Balancing of Political Objectives and Interests.” His talk highlighted how scientific research could be integrated into policymaking.

Assistant Professor Peter Berrill from Universiteit Leiden presented a poster titled “Combined Influence of Urban Form on GHG Emissions from Building and Transport in European Cities.” His research examines how urban planning influences sustainability, emphasizing the potential of urban designs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Postdoctoral Researcher Meng Jiang from NTNU contributed with a 15-minute talk and discussion at the GRS and a poster at both the GRS and GRC. His presentation, “Machinery and Equipment Required for a Sustainable Future,” addressed the technical and capital needs for sustainable development, aligning with CircoMod’s goals of advancing sustainable technological solutions.

The active participation of our team members in these esteemed forums underscores CircoMod’s commitment to bridging the gap between science and practice in industrial ecology. We are inspired by the collaborative spirit of the GRC and GRS, which are vital in fostering dialogue and development within the global scientific and policy community.

Amid the conference schedule, they enjoyed the breathtaking mountain landscapes of Les Diablerets during group hikes.
