CE-Climate Data Hub

The CIRCOMOD CE-Climate Data Hub is an open platform that provides access to:

   I. Open CIRCOMOD database with high-quality data sets related to CE-climate modelling,

II. CIRCOMOD Scenario Explorer for CE-climate modelling results (available from Sept. 01, 2026), and

III. Interactive dashboard and circular economy profiles for materials, products, and regions.

These resources were largely developed as part of the Horizon Europe project CIRCOMOD and  support a wide variety of circular economy assessments, particularly in the context of climate change mitigation.

Open CIRCOMOD database

The open CIRCOMOD database The database is part of the Industrial Ecology Data Commons (IEDC). The IEDC is an entirely new type of database that contains more than 400 datasets for industrial ecology and socio-metabolic research, including stocks, flows, process inventories, process yield factors, material composition and lifetimes of products, and many more. The goals of the IEDC are to provide easy access to socio-metabolic, industrial ecology, and circular economy data to researchers and consultants and to provide researchers with an infrastructure that facilitates systematic data formatting and labelling.

– Access the Industrial Ecology Data Commons (IEDC)

– Access the CIRCOMOD-specific datasets via IEDC

Several special search and filter options are provided to allow for needs-tailored access to available data (e.g., by keyword, by label, by aspect combination, etc.). Furthermore, an automated Sankey visualisation tool is available for selected dataset.

Want to increase visibility and accessibility of your data, and contribute to the IEDC? Data contributions are always welcome. Data templates, an automated label finder, and a data template validator are available here.

CIRCOMOD Scenario Explorer (hosted by IIASA)

The CIRCOMOD results output database, a CIRCOMOD specific instance of the Scenario Explorer, is hosted by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). In the CIRCOMOD Scenario Explorer, model results are made available in the common IAMC data format. Users can explore model results with the integrated visualisation tools for timeseries results by freely choosing models, variables, regions, etc. to be displayed.

– Access the CIRCOMOD Scenario Explorer (available from September 01, 2026)

– Access Zenodo ‘CIRCOMOD’ community, including final results repository (available from September 01, 2026)

Interactive dashboard and Circular Economy profiles

Circular Economy Profiles present circular performance and scenario impacts in a structured, comparable format, combining baseline indicators with projected outcomes across environmental and socio-economic dimensions. They are available by material, sector, and region, including EU Member States and IPCC AR6 R10 region. Designed by our colleagues from Industrial Ecology group at Freiburg University (IEF) the dashboard below shows how a regional circular economy profile could look like. The dashboard enables users to explore circular economy scenarios and compare their implications across indicators, sectors, and regions. Rather than simply displaying data, it supports option comparison by helping users test scenarios, compare outcomes, and identify trade-offs or synergies between objectives.

The app below shows the results of our circular economy and climate impact assessment of different global development scenarios (Pauliuk et al. 2021) [https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-25300-4].
