CIRCOMOD and TRANSIENCE join forces to advance circular and climate-neutral industry in Europe
The CIRCOMOD project is pleased to announce the establishment of a new collaboration with the Horizon Europe project TRANSIENCE – TRANSItioning towards an Efficient, carbon-Neutral Circular European industry. This strategic partnership marks an important step toward aligning and enhancing modelling efforts for the circular and low-carbon transformation of European industry.
Launched in 2024, TRANSIENCE focuses on assessing circularity principles and measures for industrial decarbonisation. At the heart of the project is the development of MIC³, an open-source model ecosystem designed to integrate interoperable modules representing diverse perspectives on industrial transformation. Through robust scenario modelling, TRANSIENCE aims to deliver actionable pathways for achieving a material-efficient, circular, climate-neutral, and sustainable European industrial system.
The collaboration between CIRCOMOD and TRANSIENCE was initiated through a joint meeting where teams explored synergies and cross-project learning opportunities. Both projects share strong commitments to transparency, open data, and capacity building. The complementary nature of CIRCOMOD’s economy-wide circularity modelling and TRANSIENCE’s sectoral and systems-level industrial modelling creates exciting potential for mutual enrichment.
Particularly promising are the opportunities for cross-fertilisation in the areas of scenario development, material flow and stock modelling, and the integration of circularity and decarbonisation measures into policy-relevant tools. Together, the projects will contribute to better-informed EU policies and industry strategies, ensuring a more resilient, resource-secure, and climate-aligned future for Europe.
Stay tuned for future updates as CIRCOMOD and TRANSIENCE continue to deepen their collaboration through shared events, research outputs, and stakeholder engagement.
